To be or not to be?

Graphistudio wedding albums were chosen by the leading prestigious wedding photographers around the world for their:

  • outstanding build quality
  • excellent design layouts
  • cutting edge effects
  • high level of customer care and services
  • and an overall consistent high quality

But wait..these are quickly becoming ‘things’ of the past! In more recent years, Graphistudio has encountered immense competition from the trade and I am so gutted to believe that most topnotch wedding photographers that I know of within the industry, are now abandoning them for good.

As a matter of fact, we’ve never ever used them right from the beginning. WHY? It’s simple…I just can’t cheat my clients for quality and compromise for a few hundred pounds especially when they trust me with their eyes shut! We’re aware that in our industry, there most wedding and portrait photographers use them regularly and will continue to do so in the future for their benefits ;)

The difference between Professional and Professionalism?

This morning, I had an urge to write this blog article.

There are photographers who ‘turn out’ top notch work, and there are those, who simply ‘churn out’ absolutely appalling work. Some are handful of full time pros and a lot of occasional part-time ‘weekend warriors’. There are photographers who charge a lot for their impressive work and there are others, who charge ridiculously low figures.

Unfortunately, there is a market for all types of demand, so I don’t feel that I should be too critical of those who do ‘cheap and cheerful’ work. However, I do have concerns about ‘professionals’ who charge medium to high prices in return for poor craftsmanship. This low quality work has given bad reputation to the industry. Unfortunately, till the industry becomes regulated by a professional body, there’s nothing we can do abut it. At the end of the day, it’s up to the client to look at their website, blog and then look at their print portfolio of the same images! ;)

We discourage our clients to book us just because they like what they have seen on our website.  After the initial inquiry over the phone and rough price guideline, we request the couple to meet up for an initial consultation. During the one hour consultation, they have an opportunity to ask us as many questions as they like. We provide them with our recent references and then leave the decision up to them based on what they see and not what they hear.

After all, being good at something just needs more practice and a burning desire to be better. I don’t see that in a lot of recent photographers. They Point, Shoot and ‘Chimp’ (sorry replace ‘chimp’ with Hope).

Why use a Professional Wedding Photographer?

Have you ever wished that your wedding photographs looked as stunning as your friend’s? Were you left amazed at the beautiful pictures of someone’s wedding that captured the cakes, balloons, ribbons along with dancing or the tears at the wedding? A true professional wedding photographer can make a world of difference to your photographs with his imagination and professional aptitude of capturing pictures.

There are lot of things happening at the same time in Asian weddings especially Hindu weddings like Sikh, Punjabi, Gujarati, etc. Capturing special moments becomes really difficult. Most of the photographers click stiff poses of the wedding couple to insert them in the standard wedding albums. However, the art lies in capturing simple moments as they happen and yet carry their special touch and the magic in them. A professional candid style wedding photographer is capable of doing exactly that!

A wedding photographer can do a great job to your photo album if you give him a chance to be a part of the celebrations. He possesses the communication skills and would put the guests at ease. This way he would be able to capture the best moments, spontaneous expressions and natural poses automatically which would be a treasure for a life time. One of the most important things is to put the wedding couple at ease and not  having them to do stiff posing and glaring at the camera. A stressed-out bride and groom can seldom give their best expressions.

Wedding photographs are a life time treasure that let you re-live your special moments over and over again in years to come. Thus, hiring a professional photographer can really make a world of difference to your memories that you would treasure all throughout your life. People go to great lengths to make their wedding day a special one.

Each individual component on your wedding day makes it special and unique in its own way. Your lights, candles, guests, cheers and laughter all form a part of your lovely wedding. Don’t you wish you can even store the smiles and laughter or the flicker of the candle from your wedding day? Well, your professional wedding photographer is perfectly capable of capturing your wedding day as it happens. If you have your wedding photographer as your guest rather than a service provider, it can create a huge difference to your wedding album. A professional eye can capture your smile reflecting in the water at your reception.

So, hire a professional photographer rather than asking your family or a friend to take your pictures. You would find the investment well worth years after your marriage and you can show your grand children that you looked as handsome or as beautiful in your youth as they do in their teens!

How to keep cool at weddings?

Weddings can be quite chaotic. Even after perfect planning and preparations, they seem to have a tendency to run into unforeseen mishaps. Most of the Asian weddings are a gala affair with as many guests as possible, all under one roof. It takes a good amount of expertise and experience to take the best shots and assuring pictures to make everyone look great.

Wedding days have known to breed disorder since ages. Wedding photographers at such times need to keep his calm. If you are the wedding photographer, you cannot afford to be intimidated by the hustle and the bustle of the wedding chaos. In fact, you have to step out of the madness and look for the best moments to capture.

The best way to get the perfect shots is to gel with the crowd. Many a times, weddings run behind schedule or something comes up that builds up tensions. All you need to focus is on the special moments that tell the story of the great day. Wedding photography is not just about getting the perfect shots or beautiful portraits. It is more than just fashion photography that calls for capturing moments and building up a story to remember.

Apart from the wedding shots, a wedding photographer needs to be aware about the personal emotions that speak a story in themselves after the wedding day. If you would like to be remembered for you photography, then you should be perfect in capturing the emotions rather than mere faces. These emotions evoke compassion every time an onlooker looks at the wedding photographs.

Just remember, a good wedding photographer can understand emotions and possesses the capacity to capture the feelings. The best pictures are the ones that possess feelings and tell a story that would remembered for generations to come. They give  satisfaction of remembering the best moments in the most beautiful manner.

We would love to know if you had any such experiences in your life? Leave your comments and we will make sure that it gets noticed :o )

10 Best Ways to Capture Candid Photos

Here are some useful tips that would enable you to capture the moods and true emotions and take the best candid pictures:

  1. If distant candid photography is your style, it is good to have a long shot camera or the telephoto lens camera with you. For distant candid photographs, you need a 200mm/ F2.8 or longer focal length lens.
  2. Even if you are shooting at close range, engage your subjects in an activity or a conversation. People engrossed in their activity or even thoughts produce more animated pictures with real life emotions.
  3. If you are shooting with children, let them not take notice of you. Be extremely patient and friendly with them and try to shoot them in their familiar environment or with familiar objects, so carry their favourite toy or pet when you intend to shoot them. Outdoor location like their regular park or playground would give you the best and the most realistic pictures without giving you a tough time.
  4. Remember to take your camera wherever you go just like your toothbrush! Best moments usually come unannounced and if you have a good eye for the details, then you can take rare shots whenever you see one.
  5. Don’t worry about lighting techniques. Keep your shots simple without worrying too much about getting the correct lighting effect. Remember, to be obscure in order to get the best shot. A flash may alert the person and you would lose spontaneity.
  6. Best shots can be taken from any level. You can get good pictures from the waist level as well if you have some luck and some experience in getting the framing right.
  7. Convert images into black and white and even in sepia tone. You can create some magic with the colouring effect in the pictures when you develop them.
  8. Don’t shoot from the back! It is awfully boring to catch people’s back. Faces create magic and depict emotion from every corner. A smile speaks volumes about the moment or a shining flick of hair dropping the face tells more about the moment rather than clicking a person’s bare back.
  9. Shoot lots of people who are active. Passive activities like someone lost in a thought can definitely give a good picture but people engaged in activities like a plumber fixing a leaking pipe, tramp hunting, a boy with a colour ball or a girl on the swing give better pictures.
  10. Learn to appreciate the spontaneity of the moment and learn to think ahead of time. This way you can anticipate the moments and can position yourself strategically to capture the best shot. Position yourself the way people would be facing, moving or looking to catch the best light effects without using the flash.

There is nothing as cool as candid photography. Click the guests at the wedding or click the smile on the bride while getting dressed. These photographs would create a whole story and would be find jewels in your portfolio!!!

Nu’f Said, now is the time for action..! ;P
